The regional airports position within the Slovak Republic: The case study of Piešťany Airport and the proposal of measures for its revitalization (2018)
This paper pursues the actual state of regional airports within the Slovak Republic and the legislation regulating the airports funding, while focusing on Piešťany Airport and its current situation with regard to the economic-operational and financial indicators. Authors analyze the business environment with review of the airport´s position within the other domestic competitive airports. The research reflects the socio-economic impacts on the adjacent region and socio-economic potential of catchment area, too. The main objective of this paper is to propose the measures for its revitalization based on the results of economic, operational and financial indicators analysis, micro and macro business environment analysis.

Performance and Prospects of Smaller UK Regional Airports (2017)
The aim of this paper is to investigate traffic trends and the financial performance of smaller UK regional airports, and over a sufficiently long period of time, which in the case of this
paper, is a fourteen year period from 2001 to 2014. Strong and weak performing airports are identified, and general trends are observed, which enables an assessment to be made of the future prospects for such airports.

Are Low Cost Carriers a problem for the management of regional airports? (2018)
This paper examine the impact of low cost carriers on regional airport performance. The question is whether a business model oriented predominantly on low cost carrier operation is sustainable. These issues are explored in a developed German economy, which is not affected by the problems of the transformation of the economy. Despite the fact that the selected regional airports handle millions of passengers, their results are not positive. On the contrary, Austrian regional airports make a profit, even though they carry a comparable number of passengers. The type of airport ownership does not have a significant effect on its performance. If an airport is not subsidized, the business model must be altered, or it is necessary to find other sources of income, for example in the non-aviation area. The question is whether this issue should be dealt with by the EU institutions in the area of significant market power and oligopolistic practices of low cost carriers.

Competitiveness Analysis of Regional Airports Based on Location Planning Models: the Case Study of Finland (2017)
Airports are playing an important role in transport system. As a result of different investment projects, a number of regional airports were opened all over Europe during the last decade. Experience shows, that most of them are still unable to sustain themselves. As a consequence of air transport market liberalization, some European airports lost regular air connections altogether. This fact started an active discussion about necessity of some regional airports and their development during last years, which is still in process. The main goal of this article is to assess the competitiveness level of each regional airport in Europe and to compare these airports between themselves. The methodology for to realize such kind of evaluation is based on the numerous location planning models and their comparison. The article also analyzes the airports’ main parameters. These parameters of regional airports will be used to create a basis for decisive criteria and, thus, to adapt standard models that meet the needs of competitiveness analysis.

Is a regional airports business a way to make a profit? (2019)
Regional airports which handled up to 3 million passengers per year have very often profitability problems. The article explores viability of such regional airports for the longer time. It focuses on the airports situated mainly in Central and Eastern Europe. The conditions under which an airport can be profitable are examined in the profitable group. The aim of the article is to point out that many airports are subsidized from public funds and this situation is in the author's opinion unsustainable in the long term. Another aim is also to point out the need to resolve the relationship of regional airports and airlines - especially low-cost airlines. Additionally, the article deals with the issue of airport subsidies through the owner, and examines whether there is a regional airport that is profitable even without subsidies.

The Technical Efficiency of French Regional Airports and Low-Cost Carrier Terminals (2019)
In France, the regional airport’s demand for services is facing challenges due to the continuous expansion of the high-speed train, high-speed line, and highway networks. This study focuses on the viability of regional airports in France through technical efficiency using data envelopment, principle component analysis, Malmquist productivity index, and regression analysis using bootstrapping. To face the current competitive environment, the regional airports in France adopted strategies, such as the construction of low-cost carrier (LCC) dedicated terminals (LCCTs) with lower expenses to attract more LCCs, increasing non-aeronautical revenue, and hosting regional hubs of LCCs. This is the first study that analyzes all of the French regional airports. The findings indicate that the existence of LCCTs positively affects technical efficiency on the airport’s performance, and share of LCCs at a regional airport leads to neither the efficiency nor the profit level.
Regional Airports Influence Economic Development of the Region (2018)
The paper deals with the importance of regional airport for economic development of the particular region with the possibility to cover also freight transport. In technical terms it is called the logistics centre or Freight Village. The special emphasis is given to the Pardubice airport and to creation of logistics centre on the Elbe river. The logistics centre would link four types of transport – railway, road, air and inland water transport. Terminal of the combined transport, which lacks in long term in the region, is also a part of the logistics centre.
Development of Regional Airports in Poland (2016)
In Poland, for many years the access to air transport for the average citizen was very limited, both in terms of cost and distance from the airport. After the liberalization of the aviation market and the introduction of the policy of "open skies" this situation has, however, changed dramatically. The emergence of low-cost carriers definitely increased the availability of air transport in financial terms. It had also a great influence on the development of regional airports, which so far played only a subordinate role in relation to the country's central airport in Warsaw airport. The development of regional airports largely removed the territorial limitation of the availability of air transport, since it is from these ports that you can now get to many parts of Europe and the world. Therefore, we are now seeing a continuous increase in the significance of regional airports. This trend concerns not only Poland, but also many other European countries. The purpose of this article is to determine the degree of development of regional airports in Poland and an indication of their role in the country's aviation market against the background of trends in air transport in selected EU countries.
