Economic geography and innovation studies are increasingly asking how regional industrial development paths develop. This paper addresses the scope of regional innovation policy to influence transformative change in regional industries, such as that needed to cope with grand societal challenges including climate change.

Hazardous chemicals in branded textile products on sale in 25 countries-regions during 2013
Previous investigation by Greenpeace have shown that a wide range of textile products, manufactured and sold in many countries around the world, can contain residues of hazardous substances. This study extends this work to include a set of 82 additional clothing and footwear products purchased between May and June 2013, which included articles sold by 12 different major clothing brands and purchased in 25 countries/regions around the world.

This is the final report of the study on impacts of REACH and corresponding legislation governing the conditions for marketing and use of chemicals in different countries/regions on the international competitiveness of the EU industry. Due to the difference in legislation in different regions, the requirements related to the management of the safety of chemicals for companies that wish to place chemicals on the market in the different countries are widely diverging. This difference can affect the competitiveness of the chemicals industry, but also of downstream users. The overall objective of the study is to assess the impacts on international competitiveness of the general legislation governing the conditions for marketing and use of chemicals.

This study maps the intended priorities and activities of EU Member States and regions with regard to research and innovation on bioeconomy. This information helps to identify specialisation patterns of European regions and countries (e.g. agro-food, blue bioeconomy or bio-based chemicals).
