SPOTLIGHT

WAGING WAR - PREPARING PEACE IN EUROPE

Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, is making an unannounced visit to the Netherlands. He visited the International Criminal Court -which has issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, on war crimes charges - where he called for the establishment of a war tribunal to hold Russia to account for alleged war crimes.

“We all want to see a different Vladimir here in The Hague (...)Zelenskyy said. More here, with POLITICO.

Earlier, Russia accused Ukraine of being behind an attempted drone attack on the Kremlin aimed, it said, at killing Mr Putin. Ukraine denied it.

CITY PUBLIC DIPLOMACY - EU CITIES SPREADING EU VALUES Idée cadeau panneau fléché bois décoration murale | Etsy

As stressed by Regional Policy Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, the cities of Europe are gaining more and more political, social, and financial influence. They not only stimulate substates’ actions to lead social innovations within the European framework but also foster new ways of dialogue and interaction with counterparts outside the EU and put forward patterns of “good praxes” that could inspire local governments all over the globe.

“Cities, not nations, have been the main players during most of our civilization’s existence, and cities may again overtake nations as the primary building blocks of Europe. Cities have to be at the heart of our plans to create a Europe that is prosperous, environmentally sustainable, and where no citizen is marginalized.”
- Johannes Hahn, Regional Policy Commissioner

European Public Diplomacy

''European Public Diplomacy'', edited by Mai’a K. Davis Cross, and Jan Melissen, is part of the book series: Palgrave Macmillan Series in Global Public Diplomacy.
The volume is a collection of essays that provide a highly contextualized and granular analysis of European Union public diplomacy. Embedded in the expanding body of comparative literature, with a focus on identity, narratives and norms, this book also offers rich detail about the external face of European regionalism, with all its attractive, albeit uneven, features.

EUROPE FIGHTING YOUTH OBESITY

Increasing youth obesity has been recognised as an important public health issue in Europe, as overweight or obese children are likely to become overweight or obese adults. They are more likely to suffer serious health and social consequences, including a higher risk of premature death and disability in adulthood. Moreover, higher obesity rates are usually found in children from lower socioeconomic groups and disadvantaged areas, illustrating the equity dimension of obesity.

A Book

with getabstract

Quickening disruption is inevitable as AI and machines invade work that people once routinely performed, writes business professor Edward D. Hess. To help workers deal with this development, Hess prescribes lifelong learning, unlearning and relearning focused on creativity, collaboration and critical thinking – which people still do better than machines.

His approach to learning is holistic, marrying mind, body and spirit – and it’s based on hundreds of journal articles, books and 17 years of teaching experience. Hess also offers numerous thought experiments, assessments and journaling exercises.
