A cluster of interconnected energy-related challenges confronts the European Union (EU), individual member states, and their populations. GHG emissions, economic–industrial restructuring, rising costs, developing and implementing new technologies, and external dependency, are prominent. Existential imperatives and political constraints imposed by energy needs have affected environmental and foreign policy ambitions. Some EU states are compelled to renew their nuclear industries.

The emerging Global Natural gas market and the energy crisis of 2021-2022
The ongoing energy crisis of late 2021 looks sure to move into 2022. It has already had wide-ranging impacts on economics, the environment, and security. This essay considers a few of the tensions arising for government policy, investors, and consumers. The crisis has three distinct elements: COVID-19 and supply chain disruptions, greater interconnectedness of natural gas markets, and signs of energy price volatility during the energy transition away from fossil fuels.

EU energy system transformation - Cost of Non-Europe
The European Union's energy system is on a path of transformation that should allow it to achieve a net-zero emissions target by 2050. However, there are many challenges ahead and achieving this target requires making profound structural changes. In this context, the present report, drafted at the request of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), looks at what the consequences would be if the EU does not take further ambitious and united action in the transformation of its energy system. The cost of non-Europe in this area is estimated at up to 5.6 % of EU GDP in 2050, and avoiding this will require EU budgetary, regulatory and coordination action. The benefits would be many, including averted environmental costs and damage, and more sustainable and prosperous societies emerging as a result of a just and fair transition.

Recast EU Regulation on Gas and Hydrogen Networks - EU Legislation in Progress
On 15 December 2021, the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal to recast the 2009 EU Gas Regulation, as part of the hydrogen and decarbonised gas markets package. The Commission's legislative proposal likewise includes a targeted revision of the 2017 Security of Gas Supply Regulation. This aims to foster greater regional cooperation on gas storage, facilitate the (voluntary) joint procurement of strategic stocks, and encourages Member States to take measures to address the growing risk of cyber-attacks on EU energy networks. The Geopolitics of Energy Supply in the ‘Wider Europe’
European Green Deal and Energy Crisis in EU
The paper will analyze, through a qualitative analysis based on a synthesis of the most recently adopted European regulations, how the Green Deal enforcement may have a potential impact on energy crisis from EU. This article also presents the impact of EC Communication on Energy Prices (adopted in October 2021) a, highlighting how the European regulation aims to tackle the exceptional rise in global energy prices, providing a "toolbox" that the EU and its Member States can use to address the immediate impact of current prices increases, and further strengthen resilience against future shocks. We will also discuss the impact of energy liberalization process on Romania given the fact that although this country was badly affected by the energy liberalization process resumed in 2021 and also by energy crisis will continue to develop renewable energy capacities which will increase moderately in the current decade, especially wind and photovoltaic ones.
